Rights Respecting Schools Award

Geography at Manadon Vale is taught using an enquiry-based approach. The key knowledge and skills of each blocked topic are mapped across the school, ensuring that knowledge builds progressively and that children develop skills systematically.  Relevant existing knowledge is checked at the beginning of each topic using our knowledge organiser as a tool to identify, “What do I already know that will help me?”. Children can use this organiser to ask questions that specifically interest them about the topic. This ensures that teaching is informed by the children’s starting points and that it takes account of pupil voice, incorporating children’s interests.  Tasks are selected and designed to provide appropriate challenges to all learners and to develop independent working and confidence, in line with the school’s commitment to inclusion.

We are so excited to introduce our very own MVPS Micro Forest! 🌱 After lots of background work from Mrs Gilbride and SocieTree, we welcomed our EYFS, Year 1 and Year 2 children, alongside their parents and carers, for a wonderful day of planting. Thank you also to Manadon Vale PTFA for your generous donation towards the structural wall. Together, we have created a special outdoor space that will support learning, exploration and a love of nature for years to come🌷🌲🌻 We can’t wait to watch our micro forest grow and flourish, and to see the many ways our children will enjoy learning within it.

On Friday 24th April, our school will support military families by taking part in Wear Purple for Military Families 💜. This day recognises the strength and resilience of children and families connected to the armed forces, who often face challenges like moving schools and time apart from loved ones. We invite all children and staff to wear something purple, whether it’s a jumper, ribbon, or socks to show support and appreciation.💜

Year 3 PE As part of our Extreme Earth Dance unit, the children made their own music using all kinds of percussion instruments and put together a short routine. Their challenge was to include a mix of both unison and canon moves. Hurricanes and tornadoes were their inspiration

Well done to the year 6s, who represented Manadon at the indoor rowing festival this afternoon. I think they discovered that rowing at top speed for several minutes is very hard work. They showed great stamina and determination! Well done team.

Penguins' Perfect pizzas! What a fabulous day! After recently designing pizzas based on our tasting session earlier in the term, today we made our final mini pizzas for our 'customer'. We also made our own pizza chef hats, designed and created our pizza boxes and made bunting based on the Italian flag colours.

Italian Day! 🇮🇹 Starfish had a wonderful day celebrating all things Italian today! All the children got into the Italian spirit by wearing green, white, and red ❤️🤍💚 We started the morning by making our own chef hats 👩‍🍳👨‍🍳 and decorating them with Italian images. We then designed our pizza boxes 📦, creating our own unique logos ✏️. Later, we carefully transferred our designs onto the boxes, thinking about how to make them eye-catching, appealing, and fun 🎨✨ After break, we made bunting and flags in the Italian colours 🇮🇹, followed by the highlight of the day-pizza making! 🍕 The children created their own pizzas, using the designs they had planned last week. Finally, the afternoon was spent enjoying our delicious masterpiece pizzas and evaluating them. What a wonderful day full of fun! 🎉

Year 5 had an amazing treat during swimming today - we only went and bumped into Steve Backshall from the CBBC 's 'Deadly 60' series! The children were so excited to meet Steve, who very kindly put a pause on his day to answer the children's wildlife questions. 🐍 Thank you so much for indulging us, Mr Backshall! :D
