About this curriculum

Through finding out about how and why the world, our country, cultures and local communities have developed overtime, our children leave Manadon Vale Primary School understanding how the past influences the present. This, we believe develops a context for their growing identities as they move thorough education and beyond.

At Manadon Vale Primary School, we provide a comprehensive and engaging history curriculum that fosters a deep understanding of the past while nurturing our children’s curiosity and critical thinking skills. Our primary history curriculum is designed to incorporate an "Enquiry-Based Learning" approach, ensuring that substantive concepts run through the curriculum, building knowledge, and promoting a lifelong love for history.

The primary history curriculum focuses on substantive concepts that are fundamental to understanding the complexity and interconnectedness of historical events. These concepts are carefully integrated throughout the different year groups and topics, ensuring continuity and coherence in learning.

Teachers design lesson plans that encourage students to ask questions, investigate historical evidence, and draw conclusions. Enquiry-based activities, such as analysing primary sources and role-playing historical figures, are incorporated regularly. The history curriculum is integrated with other subjects, such as English, geography, and art, to reinforce substantive concepts and provide a holistic learning experience.

Connect Academy Trust are running a competition across the eight schools in the Trust. They are asking children to design a Christmas card and will choose one lucky winner. The winning design will be printed and used as the Connect Academy Trust Christmas card for this year. If your child would like to enter they need to create a Christmas card design on A4 paper. They can use a variety of media (pens, colouring pencils, paint) and be creative as they like! They do not need to add any specific text or logo, this will be added to the winning design. Designs need to be given to the school office or class teachers by Thursday 21st November. We look forward to seeing lots of festive designs.

How clever is our fabulous Mrs Richards for planning, organising and creating this huge wall display for all of our children and staff to see as they enter our hall? Each year group has their own tentacle; every child has their own loop 🌈🐙 Thank you, Mrs Richards, for this wonderful whole-school project! I think everyone can agree that it is utterly brilliant! 🌟

Today, two of our school parliament members were selected to represent our school at a ‘Connect Council Meeting’ held at Eggbuckland Vale Primary School. They received their Connect Council badges and had the chance to meet and interact with other students their age representing schools from across the Connect Trust. During the meeting, a variety of ideas were shared, and the Council agreed on some common goals.📚✏️

The whole school gathered on the playground today at 11am to observe a 2-minute silence together. 💙❤️ During this moment of reflection, the children were asked to think of those who have fought and died for our country in the past but also to be thankful for those who continue to work to protect our country today! 🇬🇧
