We are delighted that we have been accredited with this prestigious award by UNICEF, a leading organisation supporting children and their rights across the world. It supports schools across the UK to embed human rights in their ethos and culture. The award recognises achievement in putting the UNCRC at the heart of the schools practice to improve well-being and help all children realise their potential.

‍The report recognises the strong understanding pupils have of children’s rights and how these rights are upheld within school and connected to the experiences of children locally and globally. Rights education is embedded through the curriculum, whole-school events and ‘Right of the Week’ assemblies, ensuringthat pupils regularly revisit and deepen their understanding of the UNCRC.

‍A rights respecting school not only teaches children about their rights but ensures that rights and respect are reflected in everyday relationships. At Manadon Vale, pupils described restorative conversations where everyone is given an opportunity to speak, listen and work together to resolve disagreements. Staff also explained how the school’s trauma-informed approach is underpinned by children’s rights.

‍The report recognises the extent to which pupils feel empowered to influence change and advocate for children’s rights. Through the RRSA and Pupil Parliament, children have opportunities to share their views and make a visible difference to school life. Pupils have led initiatives including the Playground Charter, Anti-Bullying Week, fundraising activities and a road safety campaign, with some children taking their concerns to their local MP and councillors.

  Our RightsRespecting School

‍The Rights Respecting Schools Award helps our children understand their rights and learn how to respect the rights of others. At Manadon Vale Primary, children’s rights are embedded across the school and are part of everyday school life. Rights are taught through our curriculum, whole-school events and ‘Right of the Week’ assemblies. Our staff are committed to creating a caring and nurturing school where dignity, respect and inclusion are valued by everyone. Children are encouraged to talk about their feelings, listen to others and work together to solve problems. Children’s views are important to us. Through the RRSA and Pupil Parliament,children have opportunities to share their ideas and make changes aroundschool. They have helped create the Playground Charter, led Anti-Bullying Weekand taken part in campaigns and fundraising to support others. We have seen apositive impact across our school community, including:
