Rights Respecting Schools Award
We are proud to announce that Manadon Vale Primary School has achieved the Silver: Rights Aware accreditation from the UNICEFUK Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA).
As a Silver: Rights Aware school:
- We embed the principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) into our policies, practice and ethos.
- We promote knowledge and understanding of children’s rights throughout our whole school community.
- Our children are developing as rights-respecting global citizens and advocate for fairness, both in school and beyond
The ABCDE of Rights at Manadon Vale
At Manadon Vale, our Rights Respecting journey is built on the ABCDE of Rights, which helps every child understand what it means to live in a rights-respecting community.
- A – Rights for All: Rights belong to every child, everywhere, and are agreed internationally by the United Nations.
- B – From Birth: Every child has these rights from the moment they are born.
- C – Cannot be Taken Away: Rights are permanent and cannot be removed under any circumstances.
- D – Don’t Have to Be Earned: Rights are not privileges; they are guaranteed to all children automatically.
- E – All Equal: Every right is equal — no right is more important than another.
At Manadon Vale, we uphold all 54 rights outlined in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. We also teach that with every right comes responsibility — our pupils learn to respect the rights of others and contribute positively to our school and wider community.
These values are woven into our lessons, assemblies, and daily life, helping children understand both their rights and their responsibilities, ensuring they grow into caring, responsible, and empowered individuals.
At Manadon Vale:
- Children’s rights are at the heart of everything we do — in classrooms, in the playground, on school trips and in our wider community.
- Pupils, staff, parents and governors work together to uphold and model these rights.
- We involve children as active partners: their voices matter, their views are listened to, and they are encouraged to respect the rights of others.
- We reflect this commitment in our school values of collaboration, resilience, curiosity, wellbeing and community.
