Welcome to the Year 5 page
Newsflash! The Welcome To Year 5 meeting will be held in the school hall on Thursday 19th September at 2.30pm.
Year 5 marks the beginning of UKS2, which means our children are nearing the end of their primary school journey! There is so much to look forward to this year: an exciting curriculum, opportunities to explore our local community and lots of practical learning opportunities. We will also aim to develop the children's independence with their learning which will stand them in good stead for Year 6 and beyond!
About the team!
Your class teachers in Year 5 are Mrs Coulton (Stingrays) and Miss Eastgate (Sharks). Mrs Taylor and Ms Gee are our teaching assistants and they help to support children with their learning across both classes, whilst Mrs Hooper is our UKS2 HLTLA and supports both Year 5 and 6. We are also very lucky to have Miss Davenport assisting in the Stingray classroom.
PPA Cover (Planning, Preparation and Assessment)
Once a fortnight on a Friday, both Year 5 classes will be taught by our wonderful PPA teachers, Mrs Hooper and Mrs Cowin, who the children know very well.
Mrs Mitchell will also cover the Shark class on Wednesday morning from 9am - 11am.
If you wish to contact us then please feel free to e-mail, ring or catch us on the playground after school.

General information
PE
Year 5 outdoor PE is on a Thursday morning and indoor PE is on a Monday afternoon.
Homework
Reading homework is given out on a Friday and is expected in on the following Friday. It consists of comprehension questions that the children should be able to answer mostly on their own. Maths homework will also be set on a Friday and will be on Doodle Maths online. If they are finding any of their homework too difficult, please encourage them to speak to their teacher before the homework due date. The children will also be expected to practise their spellings and read at least 3 times out loud to an adult – this reading should be acknowledged and signed off by an adult in their reading record.
Our expectation is that the children should be able to complete their homework on their own and should take approximately 30 minutes to complete.
